History of the department:
Postgraduate training of endocrinologists began in 1958. The first head of the department was a famous Soviet scientist, professor N.M. Draznin.
From 1973 to 1985 the department was headed by the associate professor N.S. Gapanovich – one of the pioneers in surgical endocrinology in the Republic of Belarus, especially in adrenal pathology.
From 1985 to 1998 the department was headed by the professor E.A. Kholodova. Since 1991 she had been a member of the European Association of Endocrinologists, and since 1994 member of the international federation. Since 1985 she had been the head of the Scientific Society of Endocrinologists.
Since 1998 the department has been headed by the Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor L.I.Danilova. Professor L.I. Danilova is a vice-president of the Belarusian Association of Endocrinologists, a member of the European Association of Endocrinologists, member of the International Federation of Diabetes, member of the European Thyroid Association.
Scientific work of the department:
- autoimmune diseases of endocrine system
- clinic and pathogenetic peculiarities of pancreatic diabetes behavior (1 and 2d types) in different ages
- problems of obesity and metabolic disorders among children and adults
- reproductive endocrinology
Scientific works: on diabetology, thyroidology, neuroendocrine aspects of obesity among children, metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome.
