History of the subdepartment The subdepartment was founded in 1980. Since 2000 the department has been managed by Marahovsky Y.H. , the Doctor of Medical Sciences.
Advanced training for the staff has been carrying out continuously and one of these components is the staff training at the advanced courses. The range of such courses is wide and represents courses of advanced training at the adjoining departments of the Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education, the National School of Gastroenterologists and Gepatologists of the Russian Federation, international courses of advanced training in Rome (Italy), in Amsterdam (the Netherlands).
The main principle of the department: provision of cooperation and collaboration between the department of gastroenterology and nutrition of the Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education and gastroenterological departments of Minsk, the aim of which is to improve the quality of treatment and prophylaxis, scientific and educational work.

The main directions of the scientific work
- Creation of domestic equipment for the functional diagnostics in gastroenterology. Till 2000 the microprocessor computer device for intragastral pH-metry had been created (acidogastrometer – ACM – 01).
- Creation of domestic gastroenterological preparations. In 1999, together with other specialists of the Republic of Belarus, the creation of the domestic antacid preparation GEFAL was completed.
- Pathophysiological and clinical basics of standardization and optimization of gastroenterological diseases.
The staff of the subdepartment has worked out standardized evaluation technologies to determine the level of severity of intestinal inflammatory diseases, malabsorption syndrome, liver cirrhosis, functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal refluxed disease.
- Importance of food intolerance in the development of pathology.
Additional possibilities at the subdepartment: The subdepartment is well-supplied with the information: there is a database on gastrointestinal pathology, 12 international magazines (1980 to 2000), computer programs ’TELEGASTRO’, ’GIVEN’, ’DATAGATE’, works from 11 European gastroenterological weeks, 3 World Gastroenterological Congresses, video materials about gastrointestinal endoscopy, Internet access.
The department has its own examination technologies, technologies of treatment and standardized clinical evaluation on the basis of case-based gastroenterology.
It is possible to be examined at the subdepartment with a help of special equipment for the evaluation of the functional condition of the gullet, stomach, and duodenum |
