History of the department
The department of therapy was founded in September in 1960. Professor S.S. Nesvizhskaya, an experienced teacher, highly skilled physician, a well-known scientist, became the head of the department. In 1969 - 1998 the department was headed by professor A.S. Chizh. Since 1998 the department has been headed by professor M.S. Pristrom.
 The department organizes advanced training courses for physicians. For more than 45 years about 15 000 physicians from different regions and teaching staff of Medical Universities underwent advanced training courses.
According to the teaching program, lectures, seminars and practical classes cover all the material connected with internal pathology (cardiovascular system diseases, joint diseases, respiratory organ and alimentary organ diseases, kidney diseases, connective tissue system diseases), main questions of endocrinology, oncology, hematology.
At present advanced training courses last only 2 weeks. Before it took 1 month to undergo them. For the last 3 years the department has organized 40 two-week advanced training courses for 1 500 doctors. The courses may be attended not only by district physicians, but also doctors from hospitals out of city, by health unit doctors, doctors from regional and city hospitals.
Even cardiologists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists can undergo the advanced courses at the department.
At present the department is well-equipped with computers, multimedia devices, projectors. The clinical base – 2d City Hospital – is equipped with diagnostic devices and computed tomographic scanner. |
