History of the department
The department was formed in1961, at the time when the department of chest surgery and anesthesiology was created. In 1963 it was renamed as the department of surgery and anesthesiology. On the 1st of February in 1968 the department of anesthesiology and resuscitation was created. Klavuznik I.Z., an associate professor, became a head of the department.
The department was headed by Kanus I.I. in 1990, and from 2004 – by the professor Ilukevich G.V.
 A huge scientific and research work is carried out at the department. Its staff writes many monographies, manuals, books, scientific studies, articles. They are authors of Congresses, Plenums and Conferences. They participate in World, European and National Congresses, Plenums and Conferences.
Nowadays the department is well-equipped, it has a well-qualified staff and the necessary teaching material, which helps to train doctors in anesthesiology, toxicology and intensive therapy.
The department is involved into scientific work:
• Anesthetic management and intensive therapy at critical states.
• Optimization of anesthetic management during operations at abdominal medicine
• Anesthetic management during kidney transplantation operations with the patients suffered from the renal insufficiency
• Regional methods of anesthesiology during large joint endoprosthesis operations.
• Anesthesia at severe polyinjuries.
• Optimization of intensive therapy at the acute renal insufficiency
• Complex intensive therapy of the intensive peritonitis
• Complex therapy of destructive forms of pancreatitis
• Urgent conditions in toxicology
• Intensive therapy of the burning injury
• Rational antibacterial therapy of suppurative-septic conditions
The department has a perfect scientific basis and a qualified teaching staff, - doctors of the Republic of Belarus and from abroad are welcome to undergo the training at the Doctoral Candidacy, PhD-course, and Clinical Residency.
