 History of the department
This year the department of hygiene and medical ecology celebrated its 60-years anniversary. The history of postgraduate training of specialists in hygiene started in 1945 on the basis of corresponding departments of Minsk Medical Institute. Beginning from 1947 it continued in Belarusian Institute of advanced medical studies, at first as a course and then at the Department of hygiene.
Training at the department includes the following areas: hygiene, sanitary and hygienic laboratory research, basics of medical prophylaxis, statistical service and analysis. Doctors of various specializations improve their qualification here; hygienists, head doctors of Centers of hygiene and epidemiology, laboratory doctors from Centers of hygiene and epidemiology, valeologists, doctors of departments of prophylaxis, clinicians of pediatric and therapeutic specialization. There are also courses of professional development for teachers of hygienic departments at medical institutes of higher education.
In order to carry out the educational process the specialists from other organizations are invited: Ministry of Health, Republican Centre of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, Belarusian Centre for Medical Technologies, Committee on healthcare of Minsk city, Belarusian State Medical University, Republican Scientific Practical Center of Hygiene.
Basic areas of scientific work of the department:
The following areas are touched upon in the research studies: hygienic aspects of atmospheric air protection, nutrition hygiene and radiation hygiene, psychohygiene. Research studies are carried out in cooperation with scientific practical centre of hygiene and also some major Centers of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Republic.
During the last 3 years the staff of the department have published 98 research papers; 3 of them in publications of CIS, 96 – in republican publications. 5 sanitary regulations and codes were worked out and introduced into the work of state sanitary control with active participation of the staff of the department. |
