History of the department:
Training of personnel on medical radiology was arranged beginning from 1933 on the courses of professional development under the department of therapy at Minsk Medical Institute that were headed by S.M. Livshits.
An independent department of radiology was formed at Belarusian State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies in 1951. During 26 years the department was headed by the Honoured Science Worker of Belarus, Doctor of Medicine, professor Sosina B.M.
 At present the department of radiodiagnostics is headed by the member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus professor Mihailov A.N. – a notable scientist who made a valuable contribution to the development of medical science. Research studies carried out by professor Mihailov cover a wide range of problems in the spheres of cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, osteology, angiology, urology and many others.
Today the department has modern material and technical basis, professional and teaching staff, information and methodological materials that make it possible to ensure high level of postgraduate training of specialists on all sections of radiodiagnostics.
The main lines of scientific work:
- «Study of mechanisms of functional disorders of human organs and systems and working out their treatment» (research supervisor – professor Mihailov)
Methods of visualization of functional and structural changes in internals.
- «Study of adaptative-compensatory mechanisms of motor apparatus under physical activity in health and disease» (research supervisor – professor Mihailov).
Working-out the methods of X-ray diagnostics and evaluation of functional state of a spine and joints with the help of digital radiography.

• Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for pediatric oncology and hematology
• Research Institute for oncology and medical radiology.
