Department of general practice was organized in January 1999 on the basis of the corresponding course operating since 1998 under the department of emergency care. Since 2003 the department holds training of doctors and nurses on the basics of palliative medicine.
Training of students is adapted to the technologies of a general practitioner and is aimed at prophylaxis and early detection of diseases, treatment and rehabilitation of patients, emergency medical aid in critical states, refreshing and acquiring a wide range of practical skills. Students improve their knowledge in general practice in the spheres of therapeutics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, outpatient surgery, oncology, dermatovenerology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, emergency medical aid; they master the skills of ophthalmoscopy and otoscopy.
All the lecturers of the department have practical experience in Primary Healthcare, know its problems, and have passed training in pedagogics, medical psychology and general practice.
