History of the department
The department of sports medicine and exercise therapy was formed in 1999. Beginning from 2006 the department is headed by Gennady Zagorodnyi, associate professor, Candidate of Medicine. The basic lines of the work of the department are assessment of functional state of sportsmen’s organisms, prophylaxis of traumas and diseases connected with doing sports and the questions of rehabilitation by physical methods.
Beginning from the formation of the department and till now 11 instructors have worked here: 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 8 assistants, including 1 Doctor of Medicine and 3 Candidates of Medicine.
The department has clinical bases at City clinical hospital ?5, Republican centre of sports medicine and Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of “Neurology and neurosurgery”. Practical studies are also held at Republican children’s rehabilitation centre, Republican orthopaedic rehabilitation centre, city outpatient’s clinic ?19, Republican clinical hospital of medical rehabilitation and expertise.
The main subject courses of professional development deal with topical issues of sports medicine and rehabilitation by physical methods after traumas and diseases. Retraining courses on specialties “Sports medicine” and “Exercise therapy” are planned for the year 2010.
