History of the department
The department of emergency care and catastrophe medicine was organized in 1989 as a multi-aspect structural unit of Belarusian State Institute of Advanced Medical Science. The staff of the department included specialists in emergency treatment, cardiology, resuscitation and anesthesiology, toxicology, emergency surgery and traumatology and neurology.
The first head of the department since 1989 was associate professor, Candidate of Medical Science Baranov L.G. In 1998 a course of general practice was formed on the basis of the department, in 1999 it was reorganized into independent department headed by associate professor Voronko E.A.
Since October 2003 the department of emergency care is headed by associate professor, Candidate of Medical Science Mironov L.L. In the same year the department was united with the department of catastrophe medicine. Beginning from the year 2007 the department has been headed by associate professor, Candidate of Medical Science Novikova N.P.
