The department was founded on the 1st of February, 2008. From this time the department has been headed by Y.P. Ostrovsky, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of the Republic of Belarus. A year later the course of transplantology was organized.
The main target of the department is training of surgeons in cardiology, X-ray endovascular surgery, transplantology, and also retraining of the following doctors:
- Cardiac surgery
- X-ray endovascular surgery
Under the leadership of Y.P. Ostrovsky the first heart transplantation in Belarus was carried out.
Refresher courses at the department deal with cardiovascular surgery, angiosurgery, arythmology, ischemic heart disease, transplantology and others.
Scientific work of the department :
- Algorithm of clinic and instrumental diagnostics of impaired cardial function progressing after an operation;
- Method of prediction and secondary prophylaxis of postoperational cardiovascular complications with patients suffered from acute coronary syndrome with surgical myocardium revasculization;
- Technology of heart transplantation with patients suffered from terminal stages of impaired cardial function in Belarus;
- Method of reconstruction of outlet part of right ventricle of heart and pulmonary artery with the usage of cryopreservated allographts;
- Hybrid treatment method of multiple (inter)ventricular septum defects at inborn heart diseases;
- Hybrid treatment method of patients with dissecting aneurysm of aorta;
- Algorithm of hybrid treatment methods with patients suffered from coronary heart disease (CHD);
- Differentiated treatment method of postpericardiotomic syndrome with patients suffered from coronary heart disease and/or acquired valvular disease after open-heart operation;
New mastered techniques:
- Medicamental method of myocardium protection at angioplasty, coronary shunting and reconstruction operations with patients suffered from acute coronary syndrome (Gelis L.G., Ostrovsky Y.P.)
- Differentiated treatment method of postpericardiotomic syndrome with patients suffered from coronary heart disease and/or acquired heart disease after open-heart operation; (Ostrovsky Y.P., Kardash O.F.)
- 11 heart transplantation operations were performed successfully in Belarus (Ostrovsky Y.P.)
International cooperation:
Ostrovsky Y.P. - member of European Association of thoracal and cardiovascular surgeons, European Association of cardiac surgeons, European Association of cardiologists.
Ostrovsky Y.P. participated in 4 international scientific conferences, congresses, symposiums. He also participated in researches carried out together with foreign scientific establishment – Vilnius University Hospital (Vilnius).
International projects and grants - 1 «Miniinvasive systems of artificial circulation».
There is a special training of specialists of the heart transplantation project at the Berlin Heart Center, Vilnius and Prague University Cardiac Surgical Centers.
