History of the department
The department of ophthalmology was founded in the late 40-ies. In 1954 – 1979 professor M.M. Zolotareva was head of the department. In 1979 - 1993 - professor K.I.Chvyaleva. In 1993 - 2007 – Candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor L.K.Yahnitskaya.
Since 1993 the main scientific researches were made in the field of diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with the pathologies: traumas and consequences, endocrinous ophthalmopathy, thromboembolic affections, cataracts.
Since 2007 the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, associate professor T.A. Imshenetskaya. At present the scientific work of the department is connected with the problems of surgical treatment of cataract with a method of phacoemulsification, vitreoretinalis surgery and treatment of detachment of retina, plastic and reconstructive surgery of eyelids and eyeballs.
Main directions of the scientific work:
- vitreoretinalis surgery;
- reconstructive surgery of cornea and conjunctiva pathology with the help of amniotic membrane;
- transplantation of donor cornea;
- surgery of refractory glaucoma;
- plastic surgery of orbital cavity;
- cosmetic blepharoplasty at ptosis;
- medicamentous therapy of inflammatory complications in ophthalmosurgery
- treatment of diabetic retinopathy
The courses of advanced training cover actual problems of ophthalmology. The courses are undergone by: ophthalmologists (heads of departments and residents), ophthalmologists of polyclinics, emergency doctors; retraining courses are also held on the specialty ophthalmology.
Main forms of courses – lectures, seminars, participation in scientific and clinical conferences. Lectures and practical classes are held in lecture rooms with a application of multimedia devices.
