History of the department
The department was founded in 1958. During 14 years it had been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor K.I.Berdygan. Since 1971 Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor G.V.Kruchinsky had been head of the department.
Since 1991 the department of oral surgery has been headed by A.S.Artushkevich. The scientific work of the department is closely connected with studying of fracture biomechanics, development of operative treatment methods, treatment of inborn maxillofacial pathologies, treatment of marginal periodontitis and vascular tumor. Courses of advanced training include the following problems:
• Maxillofacial traumas
• Maxillofacial inflammatory diseases
• Inborn maxillofacial pathology
• Plastic surgery
The courses are attended by surgeons, stomatologists (heads of departments and residents), teaching staff of medical universities.
Main forms of classes – lectures, seminars, participation in scientific, clinical, hospital, clinical-anatomic conferences. Lessons are held with the presence of patients. Learners usually make ward rounds, assist operation, and make analysis on the base of X-Ray examinations.
At present the department makes scientific researches in the fields:
• Treatment of maxillofacial trauma;
• Inborn maxillofacial pathology.
