History of the department
 The department of preventive dentistry was founded in 1977. V.I. Yakovleva, professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, was the first head of the department. Candidates of Medical Sciences, associate professors E.K.Trofimova and T.P.Davidovich had been working at the department since the time of its foundation. Until 1988 the bases of the department were stomatologic department in the 28th City Hospital and the Regional Stomatologic Polyclinic. In 1988 the 8th Stomatologic Polyclinic became the clinical base of the department.
In 1990 doctor of Medical Sciences, professor I.K.Lutskaya became head of the department.
At present the staff of the department includes: 12 teachers (9 of them are Candidates of Medical Sciences), 2 graduate students and 17 residents. The department has 4 treatment rooms, a classroom, a lecture room.
The staff of the department actively participates in the work of the Belarusian Stomatologic Association, Congress of stomatologists, exhibitions «Healthcare in Belarus» ? «Stomatology».
Main topics of the advanced training courses:

• Treatment of simple caries
• Diagnostics and treatment of pulpitis and apical periodontitis
• Esthetic stomatology
• Modern stomatological materials
• Diagnostics and treatment of marginal periodontium diseases
The aim of the advanced courses in stomatology is mastering of prophylactic methods, methods of diagnostic and treatment of different stomatological diseases.
The main targets of the specialization are: deep knowledge of methods of individual, group and mass prophylaxis of the main stomatological diseases; modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of the main nosological forms of stomatologic diseases; effective application of modern stomatologic equipment, materials, instruments.
Main directions of the scientific work
1. Analysis of stomatological disease incidence among the Belarusian population.
2. Analysis of general and local resistance of teeth-pedestial system,
3. Morphology and physiology of tooth,
4. Theory and practice of esthetic stomatology.
