Department of obstetrics and gynecology ? 1 of BelMAPO was organized in 1949; its functioning was concentrated on postgraduate advanced training of obstetrician-gynecologists, on development of obstetric-gynecologic science and practice, and on rendering organizational-methodical aid to health authorities.
Beginning from 1949 the department prepared 117 residents. Not only doctors from Belarus studied here, but also doctors from the far (Lebanon, Nepal, Cameroon, Iran, Syria, Palestine, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and other countries) and near abroad (Russia, the Ukraine).
The main areas of scientific research are physiology and pathology of uterine activity (I.V. Duda), noncarrying of pregnancy (I.V. Duda, L.V. Vavilova, S.L. Yakutovskaya), magnetotherapy in obstetrics and gynecology (O.K. Kulaga, V.I. Duda), premenopause (V.I. Duda, D.v. Burjak, O.I. Klyga), collagen disease and pregnancy (O.G. Drazhina).
Department of obstetrics and gynecology ? 2 was organized in 1980 on the basis of Minsk region Maternity hospital.
Medical aid to pregnant women and to the patients with gynecological diseases is given in full volume of a specialized institution. Rehabilitation of patients is conducted with the use of laser therapy, barotherapy, reflexotherapy, balneotherapy, mud treatment and other non-medicamental methods.
More than ten thousand doctors from different parts of the former USSR and our Republic underwent advanced training at the department, and thousands of residents and graduate students were prepared here. The staff of the department got 4 inventors certificates, published 4 monographs, made up 7 adoption manuals, 5 workbooks.
In 2004 both the departments N1 and N2 of obstetrics and gynecology were united into a single one which is headed by professor S.L. Voskresenskij.
The main lines of scientific research:
Gynecology:
1. Open treatment of disorders of female genital organs;
2. Prophylaxis of cancer of female reproductive system’s organs;
3. Topical issues of a sterile marriage;
4. Study of peculiarities of natural and artificial course of premenopause, devising methods of rehabilitation and prophylaxis of complications in this kind of patients.
Obstetrics:
1. Preparing of the pregnant for the childbirth;
2. Treatment of rhesus-incompatible pregnancy;
3. Modern aspects of prenatal infections;
4. Evaluation of fetus states in various periods of pregnancy;
5. Development of medical aspects of increasing birth rate.
