History of the department: Department of infectious diseases was formed at Belarusian State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies in 1939. The base of the department was Minsk-city Infectious diseases hospital. It was here that the first in Belarus and USSR department of resuscitation for infectious patients was organized under the guidance of professor Bondareva. In 1992 the department moved to a newly built Children’s infectious diseases clinical hospital. In 1998 a Republican Research Centre for diagnosis and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis was organized, and in 1999 – Republican Children’s Hepatologic Centre.
In September 2005 the department was reorganized and two separate departments were formed: department of infectious diseases and department of children infectious diseases.
The department holds retraining courses for infectiologists, pediatricians, physicians on speciality 1-810215 «infectious diseases», as well as advanced training for infectiologists, pediatricians and doctors of other specialities.
Scientific interests of the department are mainly concentrated on three areas:
• improvement of diagnostics, prognosis and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis in children; • diagnostics and treatment of rotavirus infections; • peculiarities of diagnosis, clinic and treatment of HIV-infections in children.
Great attention is given to the study of peculiarities of clinical course and prognosis of viral hepatitis B and C in children, devising individual pathogenetic therapy, improvement of children with such pathology.
Clinical base of the department is located in “Municipal children’s infectious diseases clinical hospital”. It’s a new modern clinic designed for 620 beds, which includes 14 departments. The hospital is well equipped with clinical, viral-bacteriological and serologic laboratories, laboratory of PCR-diagnostics, department of functional and radiodiagnostics. |
