 History of the department
The department of pediatric surgery was organized at Belarusian State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies in 1964 by professor Libov S.L.. From 1966 till the department of pediatric surgery was headed by professor Misharev O.S. who along with improvement of surgical treatment of children paid great attention to the questions of preoperative preparation and subsequent intensive care. He initiated the opening of the first in Belarus pediatric department of intensive care and resuscitation unser the
Centre of pediatric surgery.
In 1993 the department was reorganized into the department of pediatric anesthesiology and resuscitation and pediatric surgery, in 1999 into the department of pediatric anesthesiology and resuscitation with the course of pediatric surgery; and since 2004 the department got the name of pediatric anesthesiology and resuscitation.
The main courses of professional development held at the department are dedicated to topical issues of anesthesiology and resuscitation in childhood, diagnosis and correction of circulatory disturbances in children, particular issues of intensive care of emergency states in pediatrics, etc.
 The main lines of scientific work:
• «Optimization of anesthetic management of operations with artificial circulation in children with congenital heart disease»
• «Devising the technology of procurement, conservation and storing of aortal, pulmonary and mitral valve-containing allografts during correction of congenital heart diseases in children»
• «Application of low intensity laser radiation in complex treatment of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in children»
• «Devising and adoption of new medical activities that secure healthy maternity and childhood»
