History of the department
Departemtn of pediatric neuropathology was formed in 1980 and was primarily located on the bases of pediatric neurologic departments of Minsk regional children’s clinical hospital. The department is headed by professor Shanjko G.G.. At present the staff of the department is composed of Shanjko Georgij Georgijevich
professor, Doctor of Medicine,vassociate professor Ivashina E.N., assistants, Candidates of Medical Science Shaljkevich L.V., Yasinskaya L.I., Sharko E.E.
In 1996 the department moved to a new clinical base – Minsk clinical hospital ?7, which in 2004 was reorganized into Republican scientific and practical centre “Mother and child”. This centre is the leading one in the Republic of Belarus in the sphere of pediatrics, hereditary and congenital diseases. It has a rich treatment and diagnostic base that allows studying pediatric neurology on high-technology level. Studies are also held on the base of neurology units of City clinical hospital ?3, Minsk city centre for medical rehabilitation of children with psychoneurological diseases and Children’s infectious diseases municipal clinical hospital.
Research and scientific work at the department is mainly devoted to the study of various aspects of epilepsy, epileptic syndromes and paroxysmal states in children. On the basis of the conducted research the stages of treatment of epilepsy were developed and also the methods of prophylaxis of complications resulting from long-term intake of anticonvulsants. Besides studies of other diseases and pathologies were held here: hyperkinesia, Tourette syndrome, migraine in children, nervous system pathologies in newborn, strokes, lumbosacral radiculopathies, myasthenia.
