The faculty was founded in January 1999 under the order of the Ministry of Health. At present the faculty is composed of 7 departments: department of hygiene and medical ecology, medical and social expertise and rehabilitation, clinical laboratory diagnostics, public health and public healthcare, epidemiology and microbiology, sports medicine and therapeutic physical training.
Educational process at the faculty is performed according to the Law “On education in the Republic of Belarus”, Charter of the Academy and requirements of normative documents on higher school. The dean of the faculty plans and realizes all the sections of educational, educational and methodological, scientific-research and clinical work. The main directions of activities and development of the faculty in the sections of instructional, educational and methodological, scientific-research and educational work are set and ensured by a perspective plan for development of the faculty and BelMAPO, approved by the decision of the Council of BelMAPO.
A skilled and experienced staff is working at the faculty. 59 lecturers work here (out of them 6 are Doctors of Medicine and 29 are Candidates of Medical Science).
Department of medical expertise and rehabilitation. The department carries out development and adoption of new innovation techniques of medical rehabilitation in health-care establishments, it is engaged in development of instructive-methodological documents that regulate the activities of medical-social expertise and rehabilitation services, carries out analysis of formation and dynamics of disablement in the Republic of Belarus, works out ways of prevention and reduction of disablement, gives organizational and methodical, and consultative assistance to health-care establishments that carry out medical and social expertise and rehabilitation.
Department of sports medicine and exercise therapy. Basic attention at the department is given to the questions of medical control over the state of health during sports activities, and to kinesitherapy with various diseases and traumas. The following methods of control over functional state of sportsmen are considered during the studies: stabilometry, cardiointervalography, and also various techniques of treatment and rehabilitation (cryotherapy, shock-wave therapy, motion training technique, neurodevelopment treatment, proprioceptive neuromuscular alleviation).
Department of economics and accounting in health-care system. The following issues are taught at the department: economics, management methods, methods of financial management, business planning and pricing of medical services. Special attention is given to assessment of financial activities and economic aspects of work with staff, and also to modern evaluation techniques for medical-economic effectiveness of new technologies, ways of treatment and prevention.
Training is given by the leading specialists in economics in public health in the country engaged in lawmaking in the field of financing medical-social sphere (heads of the corresponding administrations of the Ministries of health, finances and economics in the Republic of Belarus).
Department of hygiene and medical ecology. The staff of the department carries out scientific research that touch upon hygienic aspects of health protection of children and adolescents, radiation hygiene, working out methodical approaches to evaluation of risk to the health of population as a result of xenobiotic contamination of food.
Department of clinical laboratory diagnostics. Courses of professional development that are held at the department are devoted to topical issues clinical laboratory diagnostics and modern methods of investigation. The subject area of the courses is linked to the needs of practical health care.
Department of public health and healthcare management. The department ensures training of managers of medical organizations of the Republic of Belarus for all levels of management and also training of potential workforce for Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Belarus. The department provides refresher courses and courses of professional development for managers of medical organizations, where the following questions are discussed: management and marketing, fundamentals of market relations in healthcare, managerial labour psychology, work with the staff, peculiarities of organizing health care to the population, modern medical-demographic problems, fundamentals of records management, economics and planning of healthcare, questions of forming healthy life-style, etc.
Department of epidemiology and microbiology. This department carries out retraining and professional development of doctors of different specialities (epidemiologists, bacteriologists, virologists, serologists, parasitologists, etc.).The most topical issues of epidemiology and microbiology are discussed here and innovation techniques of educational process are used. Modern equipment makes it possible to conduct studies on laboratory diagnostics of viral and bacterial infections, mycoses, anaerobic infections. Special consideration is given to combined application of theoretical and practical knowledge in solving the problems of current state sanitary-and-epidemiologic supervision. Lectures are delivered in accordance with the present epidemiologic situation in the country and in the world.
Department of general practice carries out training in new technologies of a general practitioner aiming at prevention and early detection of diseases, treatment and rehabilitation of patients, emergency medical aid with critical states, reproductive health protection.
Here research work is actively done (the main area of research is diagnostics and prevention of hospital infections), also research is carried out in the spheres of monitoring immunization reactions and complications in children, standardization of sanitary-microbiological investigations, algorithm design for diagnostics of viral and bacterial infections.
The Department directly participates in developing instructive-methodological and normative-technical documentation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus that are connected with its profile, renders consultative and methodological assistance to the specialists of practical healthcare.
