International cooperation is one of the major lines in the activity of BelMAPO, which contributes to solving the main tasks of a medical institute of higher education: training highly skilled specialists, developing priority lines of medical science, rendering highly qualified medical care.
For solving these tasks the department of international relations was created at BelMAPO.
The main target of the work of the department is development of effective partnership relations with medical establishments, institutes of higher education, research centers in foreign countries.
Tasks:
- organization of realization of international projects between the Academy and foreign partners;
- search of foreign partners and new lines of cooperation, working out propositions and activities directed to development and consolidation of external relations in the sphere of health care;
- organization of negotiations, working out agreements, work programs concerning the point of international cooperation, control and coordination of their execution.
Department of international relations of BelMAPO:
• makes arrangements the reception of foreign delegations coming to the Academy;
• carries out preparations of invitations and arranges the execution of programs for representatives of foreign states coming to the Academy on the questions of health care;
• participates in negotiations with foreign partners concerning the questions of international cooperation;
• makes oral and written translations;
• prepares reports, references and other materials connected with international cooperation;
• prepares and arranges overseas assignments for the staff of BelMAPO;
• participates in arrangement of international exhibitions, seminars, scientific conferences on the basis of the Academy;
• ensures the assignment of the staff of the Academy, doctoral candidates, resident doctors, postgraduate students within the framework of programs of international exchange;
• makes system analysis of the information concerning international relations of the Academy and foreign organizations with which the Academy cooperates.
The main lines of work in the sphere of international cooperation:
1. Training, specialization and qualification improvement of medical staff including:
- participation in international educational programs;
- education and training courses for foreign students;
- assignment of the workers of the Academy to foreign countries and enrolment of foreign specialists in the Academy for the purpose of exchange of experience in the sphere of medical science, higher medical education and practical healthcare;
- participation in international educational seminars in Belarus and abroad;
- exchange of lecturers, tutors and scientists for delivering lectures, ?????????? ??????????? ?????????? ?????????.
2. Scientific and technical cooperation with institutes of higher education, medical scientific and practical establishments, organizations, scientific societies, professional associations, companies, etc. including:
- exchange of information in the sphere of medical science, education and practical healthcare in the framework of different forms of international cooperation;
- participation in international scientific programs;
- carrying out scientific research in the network of cooperative WHO-centres, agreements and contracts with foreign partners and international projects;
- study and adoption of modern scientific medical and educational technologies within the bounds of different forms of international cooperation;
- participation in the work of international forums, exhibitions, scientific societies, associations and unions in Belarus and abroad;
- holding international scientific and scientific and practical events (congresses, conferences, symposiums, seminars, exhibitions);

At present we are actively developing cooperation with Sweden. Our countries are alike in many respects, they are situated on the same geographical latitude, have the same population size. At the moment Sweden stands on the leading position in the world by the indices of healthcare, being second perhaps only to Japan. That’s why we should name the project devoted to modernizing the program of training health professionals as the most important of all the joint projects. Later on, on the basis of this program and after preliminary training course of the tutors in Sweden, we plan to start a master class at BelMAPO. We also hope for the possibility of distance learning with the use of internet.
The project aimed at prevention of STD and HIV in the Republic of Belarus is also of enormous importance. Within the bounds of the project some national protocols were worked out concerning the diagnostics and treatment of most widespread sexually transmitted diseases and several seminars and conferences with international participation were held.
A number of joint Swedish-Belarusian projects are mainly educational (on training young psychiatrists), others – are preventive (on prevention of suicides and alcohol addiction). All the projects are of high social and medical significance and they are supported by the Ministry of Health and by World Health Organization.
The newly started cooperation between BelMAPO and American-Austrian Foundation should also be named as one of the most prospective. Every week in Salzburg, Austria medical seminars for doctors of various specialities from different countries are held, the leading specialists of Austria and America deliver the lectures. All the expenses of the participants of the seminars are paid by American-Austrian Foundation; BelMAPO is responsible for testing participants’ language skills, adequacy of their qualification to the topic of the seminar, and giving information and other support to the candidates. It is also possible to organize training courses for young specialists in the clinics of Austria with the help of Foundation, and apart from this they support scientific research. We are planning to hold annual joint conferences at BelMAPO, for the purpose of which the Foundation will invite two professors to the Republic.
